This apple pie toast with protein Greek yogurt is the perfect fall breakfast, lunch or snack. The apples are seasoned with cinnamon and cloves to give those apple pie vibes, while the Greek yogurt is mixed with a little vanilla protein powder to add a boost of protein to this autumn toast recipe. A sprinkle of walnuts on top adds depth of flavor and texture. You only need about 20 minutes to whip this apple pie toast up and is a tasty way to enjoy apple season.

Apple pie, but make it into a sourdough toast! I cannot think of a better autumn toast to celebrate apple season! The apples are sauteed with butter, honey, cinnamon and cloves until tender and then placed over a vanilla protein Greek yogurt. The toast is topped with walnuts, adding extra nutrition and flavor.

Why you will love this apple pie toast with yogurt

Protein: The Greek Yogurt with the added vanilla protein powder gives this toast an extra boost of protein!

Seasonal: Even though you can enjoy this toast year-around, the apples with the warm spices make it perfect for autumn!

Flavorful: The spiced apples with the vanilla protein yogurt creates a toast that is packed with flavor and taste like an apple pie in a sourdough toast form.

What type of apple to use?

You can use your favorite apple for this sweet toast! But here are some apples that I recommend to use.

Honeycrisp: One of my favorites choices for this apple toast. It has a nice balance between sweet and tart.

Pink Lady: This apple has a crisp texture, and falls on the tarter side but still has a nice touch of sweetness.

Gala: This apple is on the sweeter side and has a crisp texture.

Golden Delicious: This tart and lightly sweet apple has a mild flavor.

Ambrosia: This juicy apple is sweet and crisp.

Can I skip the protein powder in the yogurt?

Yes! If you do not want to add the protein powder to the Greek yogurt, you can skip it! I recommend that if you opt to leave the protein powder out, you either use a vanilla flavored Greek yogurt or just add a dash of vanilla extract and honey to the plain Greek yogurt. But if you want to keep the sugar low, a plain Greek yogurt will still be delicious with the sauteed apples and walnuts.

What you need to make this apple pie toast

Apple: You will need one sliced apple to sauté with the warm spices to create those apple pie vibes.

Butter: You will need a little bit of butter to sauté the apples. You can swap for coconut oil.

Honey: Adds sweetness to the apples. You can use maple syrup instead if you wish.

Cinnamon: Creates depth of flavor and warmth to the apples.

Cloves: A pinch of cloves provides more warm apple pie flavors. You can swap for allspice.

Plain Greek Yogurt: A plain Greek Yogurt adds a creamy texture while providing protein.

Vanilla Protein Powder: Use your favorite protein powder to mix with the Greek yogurt. You can leave out if you wish.

Sourdough Bread: A hearty slice of sourdough toast holds all the tasty apple toppings.

Walnuts: A sprinkle of walnuts gives texture and flavor. You can swap for pecans or leave off the toast if you wish.

Tips and tricks

  1. Make sure your toast is nice and toasty! You will want to make sure it can hold up to all the goodness you are adding on top!
  2. Give her apples a taste after adding the spices and honey. You can adjust to your personal taste and add more honey, cinnamon or cloves.
