These easy oat pear muffins with pecan streusel are full of warm fall spices, diced pears, and are topped with a sweet pecan streusel that takes these muffin to the next level. These muffins are well-tested and I have made them for my family every autumn to celebrate pear season. They make for the best breakfast, snack or dessert for the whole family.

When I think of fall, I often jump right to apples and pumpkins. And as much as I love those flavors, I think we sometimes forget how delicious pears are! Pear season is typically August through October, making early autumn the perfect time to bake with pears.

They are muffins you will also want to add to your fall baking list year after year! They bake up in less than 20 minutes, making them a quick baking recipe that is perfect for the kids to help make. And the added pears gives these muffins a extra moisture and that delicate pear flavor that pairs so perfectly with the cinnamon and allspice. Plus, the pecan streusel is packed with flavor and gives these muffins just the perfect amount of added sweetness that takes them to the next level.

Simple: You only need a handful of ingredients and about 30 minutes to make these fall forward muffins from start to finish! It is the perfect recipe to get the whole family to help make and enjoy together.

Seasonal: With pears being in season from August to October, right now is the perfect time to take advantage of the fresh and season fruit! I love switching up my muffins recipes to stay with the seasons, so the family never gets bored of the same muffin recipe that is made over and over.

Flavorful: These muffins pack in so much flavor! The soft pears pair so beautifully with with the cinnamon, allspice and sweet pecan streusel. They stay soft and moist for the days following baking and are absolutely AMAZING with a cup of coffee on crisp fall morning.

What you will need to make these pear muffins

Old fashioned rolled oats– You will need old fashioned rolled oats to add to the batter. The oats add some texture, flavor and nutrients, but are not overwhelming. Old fashioned works best with this recipe but you can swap for quick oats. I would avoid steel cut oats as they may be too tough after baking.

Wheat flour– Just half a cup of wheat flour helps make these pear muffins a little healthier without making the batter feel heavy or dry. You can swap for all-purpose flour if you wish.

All-purpose flour– Half of cup of all-purpose flour helps balance out the oats and wheat flour to help the muffins stay fluffy.

Salt-Enhances the flavors.

Baking powder and Baking Soda-The leavening agents used for the muffins/

Cinnamon and Allspice– The spices added to muffins to give them a warm and cozy flavor.

Maple Syrup– Sweetness the muffin batter without having to use refined sugar. You can use honey as a replacement.

Milk of choice: You can use regular milk or plant based milk to add to the moisture of the pear muffins.

Eggs- Provides structure to the muffins.

Oil-Oil gives the muffins moisture and prevents them drying out. You can use avocado, canola, vegetable or melted coconut oil.

Pears– You will need 1-2 ripe pears. You can use any variety of pears.

Butter– You will need a little melted butter to make the pecan streusel.

Pecans– Plain and unsalted pecans are used to make the streusel.

Brown Sugar– A touch of brown sugar adds a little sweetness to the streusel.

That is all! For the equipment, you do not need anything special. Just mixing bowls, spoons, measuring cups, and a muffin tin. You do not even need muffin liners if you do not have them on hand. Just make sure to oil your muffin tins prior to adding in the muffin batter.

Expert tips

  1. These pear muffins are made refined sugar free expect for the pecan crumb topping. If you would like to make these fully free of refined sugar, you can omit the crumble topping. The muffins are still amazing on their own!
  2. Use pears that are ripe, but they should still be a little firm for best results.
  3. No need to peel the pears. The skin disappears in the muffins so I do not find it worth the time to peel them prior to dicing into bite sized pieces.
  4. Due to external factors, there is not a one set bake time. Start low and check on the muffins. Remove from the oven just as the muffins are set and toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center of a muffin.
  5. You can store the muffins are room temperature in an air tight container for about 3 days or 4 days in the refrigerator.
