Easy recipes that make the most of fresh and seasonal ingredients

Easy Blueberry Ginger Smoothie Recipe

Smoothies are a summer staple! They will keep you cool, provide hydration, and nutrients. And a bonus, they are super easy to make! We tend to have few smoothies on rotation in our house and this easy blueberry ginger smoothie recipe is one we are making over and over to fight off the summer heat!

What makes this smoothie a keeper? The fresh blueberries provide antioxidants, the ginger and turmeric offer anti-inflammatory properties, the yogurt is full of probiotics, and it is packed with protein from the vanilla protein powder. And of course, the smoothie taste amazing. It is a summer smoothie recipe the whole family will love!

Tips for the perfect blueberry ginger smoothie

Before you get to blending up this super refreshing smoothie, here are some helpful tips!

  1. Frozen banana adds a creamy texture as well as sweetness to this smoothie. I will peel and freeze bananas broken in half whenever they are just starting to brown. But if they are really ripe, I just use them in baking. And by breaking them in half prior to freezing, they will blend easier compared to one large banana.
  2. Use your favorite protein powder, whatever it is! Vanilla flavor works best with this easy blueberry ginger smoothie recipe.
  3. I try to use fresh ginger whenever I can, but if you do not have fresh, you can substitute 1/2 tsp. ground ginger.
  4. As for the turmeric, I usually use ground as I rarely have fresh turmeric in the house. But you can replace the ground with fresh! Just use a small amount, and grate or finely chop into the smoothie the same as the fresh ginger.
  5. You can use fresh or frozen blueberries. If you use frozen blueberries, you will need to increase the almond to 3/4 cup. You can add more liquid if needed if it still seems too thick after blending.
  6. I used almond milk in this smoothie but feel free to use your milk of choice! Milk, oat milk, and almond milk are all great choices!
