I love making easy desserts that take minimum effort, taste great, and are healthy-ish. And this spiced pear and ginger crisp checks all those marks. You only need a handful of ingredients and about 45 minutes from start to finish to make this cozy dessert.
There are a lot of similarities between this pear crisp recipe and my strawberry and plum crisp. They both have a filling that is lightly sweetened with honey, and a crunchy oatmeal topping. And they are both super easy to make! But this crisp highlights the pears in season right now and has more warm spices in it. The paring of the fresh ginger and warm spices complement each other perfectly. Not to mention how amazing this pear crips smells when baking in the oven!

Tips and trick when making this crisp
- No need to peel the pears! The skin is so tender and blends right into the crisp after being baked, I do not feel it worth the time to peel the pears. But you can peel the skin if you wish!
- Use a microplaner to grate the fresh ginger or be sure to finely mince it. The fresh ginger is amazing with the pear, but you do not want a big bite of ginger.
- You can enjoy this pear crisp on its own, with vanilla ice cream (my favorite), or whipped cream. Or add a little Greek yogurt to turn this crisp into a sweet breakfast treat!
- To store this pear crisp, let cool completely. Cover and keep in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

Ingredient substitutions and variations
Fresh ginger: If you need to swap out the fresh ginger, you can use 1 tsp of ground ginger in its place.
Wheat flour: The wheat flour can be replaced with all-purpose or gluten-free flour if needed.
Honey: You can swap the honey for maple syrup if needed.
Nutmeg: The nutmeg can be left out or replaced with allspice if desired.
