- Huge hit with the family! My kids cannot get enough of this quick bread. It makes for a tasty after school treat for both my kids and me!

Ingredients and variations
- All-Purpose Flour: Simple all-purpose flour is used in this quick bread recipe. If you need to make the bread gluten-free, you can swap it for a 1:1 ratio gluten-free flour.
- Baking powder and soda: The leavening agents used to help the bread rise.
- Salt: Enhances the flavors.
- Sugar: Give the orange loaf the perfect touch of sweetness.
- Eggs: Provides structure to the bread.
- Greek Yogurt: Greek yogurt helps keep the bread moist. You can swap for plain yogurt, dairy free yogurt or sour cream.
- Milk: Adds moisture to the batter. You can use any percentage milk or swap for dairy free milk, such plain almond or oat milk.
- Neutral Oil: A neutral tasting oil, such as avocado, canola, or vegetable oil, keep this bread moist and tender.
- Vanilla Extract: Adds to the flavor to the bread.
- Orange juice: You will need a little orange juice to help add both moisture and flavor to the bread. I use fresh squeezed orange juice since the recipe calls for zest as well. But you can use store bought orange juice.
- Orange Zest: You will need the zest of 1-2 oranges, depending the orange size ( 2 tablespoons of orange zest). You can use any variety of orange you wish for this recipe! And you will need a microplane/zester to get the zest from the orange (one of favorite kitchen tools).
- Chocolate Chips: Chocolate chips make this bread extra special. Use your favorite chocolate chips, whether it be dark or milk chocolate.

How to make orange and chocolate chip bread
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Combine all the dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda) together in a medium bowl. Whisk together and set aside.
- In a large bowl, add the eggs and sugar. Beat together with a stand mixer, electric hand mixer, or by hand with a whisk, for about 30 seconds. If using a whisk, beat together for about 1 minute.
- Add the oil, milk, vanilla extract, Greek yogurt, orange juice and orange zest to the egg and sugar mixture. Beat or whisk together until fully combined.
- Pour the dry ingredients into the wet. Mix together until just combined. Add the chocolate chips and fold into the batter.
- Pour or scoop the batter into a 9×5 lined with parchment paper (or well greased) loaf pan. Bake for 45-55, or until the batter is fully set. When done, a toothpick will come out clean when inserted into the center of the loaf.
Sara’s Tip
This orange and chocolate chip bread has a light touch of orange flavor. But if you are wanting the orange flavor to be stronger and more intense, add 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of orange extract to the batter before baking. This will boost the orange flavor in the loaf.

Storage instructions
You can store this orange quick bread at room temperature in an air tight container for 2-3 days or 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
You can also freeze the loaf up to 3 months. To freeze the bread, let cool completely. You can slice it or keep the loaf whole. Wrap tightly with plastic wrap followed by foil. Label the date on the foil and freeze. When ready to eat, you can defrost in the refrigerator.
What to serve with orange loaf cake with chocolate chips
You can enjoy this quick bread by itself (or keep it simple with a little butter) or switch it up a little depending on what you are in the mood for.
This orange bread would be an amazing sweet side served with a savory breakfast, such as this roasted potato egg bake. Or even just with a dollop of yogurt to add extra protein.
Or if you want to sweeten this bread up, you could add a cream cheese frosting, whipped cream (my kids personal favorite) or even ice cream. The orange loaf itself it not too sweet so adding a little bit sugar is perfect if you have a sweet tooth without it being too sweet.

I’ve just popped this in the oven and am excited to try it this morning with my coffee! The recipe was missing the amounts for oil and yogurt so I guessed at ¼ cup each. Fingers crossed but I think it’s going to be delish! The batter was 😉
I hope you loved it! The recipe has been updated with the oil and Greek yogurt. Such a perfect pairing with a cup of coffee!
